Accessing Windows Vista's Disk Management tool from the Computer Management utility is very easy.
There is no shortcut to Disk Management in your Windows Vista Start Menu because it's not a program in the same way that most of the software on your computer is.
Follow the steps below to access the Windows Vista Disk Management tool from the Computer Management utility:
Note: Not using Windows Vista or want to open Disk Management from the Command Prompt? See the tips at the bottom of the page for help.
Here's How:
Click on the Start button and then choose Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link.
Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Just double-click on the Administrative Tools icon and skip to Step 4.
In the System and Maintenance window, click on the Administrative Tools heading located near the bottom of the window.
Now that Administrative Tools is open, double-click on the Computer Management icon.
When Computer Management opens, click on Disk Management on the left.
Disk Management should appear on the right side of the Computer Management window after just a few seconds of loading.
Note: If you don't see Disk Management listed, you may need to click on the |> icon to the left of Storage.
You can now change a drive's letter, partition a hard drive, format a hard drive, or do whatever else you need to do in Windows Vista's Disk Management tool.
Tips:
See How To Open Disk Management From the Command Prompt for instructions on starting Disk Management via a command.
Not a Windows Vista user? See How Do I Open Disk Management in Windows? for specific instructions for your version of Windows.
