System error codes will appear in software programs and in various areas within the Windows operating system after certain errors occur.

Important: A system error code is not the same as a Device Manager error code or a browser error code, even though the error numbers may sometimes be the same.

Below is a list of system error codes from Code 1600 to Code 1699, along with a description of what the error code means.

Error Code 1641

System error code 1641 means "The requested operation completed successfully. The system will be restarted so the changes can take effect." This error code may also display as "ERROR_SUCCESS_REBOOT_INITIATED" or as the value 0x669.

Error Code 1642

System error code 1642 means "The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade." This error code may also display as "ERROR_PATCH_TARGET_NOT_FOUND" or as the value 0x66A.

Error Code 1643

System error code 1643 means "The update package is not permitted by software restriction policy." This error code may also display as "ERROR_PATCH_PACKAGE_REJECTED" or as the value 0x66B.

Error Code 1644

System error code 1644 means "One or more customizations are not permitted by software restriction policy." This error code may also display as "ERROR_INSTALL_TRANSFORM_REJECTED" or as the value 0x66C.

Error Code 1645

System error code 1645 means "The Windows Installer does not permit installation from a Remote Desktop Connection." This error code may also display as "ERROR_INSTALL_REMOTE_PROHIBITED" or as the value 0x66D.

Error Code 1646

System error code 1646 means "Uninstallation of the update package is not supported." This error code may also display as "ERROR_PATCH_REMOVAL_UNSUPPORTED" or as the value 0x66E.

Error Code 1647

System error code 1647 means "The update is not applied to this product." This error code may also display as "ERROR_UNKNOWN_PATCH" or as the value 0x66F.

Error Code 1648

System error code 1648 means "No valid sequence could be found for the set of updates." This error code may also display as "ERROR_PATCH_NO_SEQUENCE" or as the value 0x670.

Error Code 1649

System error code 1649 means "Update removal was disallowed by policy." This error code may also display as "ERROR_PATCH_REMOVAL_DISALLOWED" or as the value 0x671.

Error Code 1650

System error code 1650 means "The XML update data is invalid." This error code may also display as "ERROR_INVALID_PATCH_XML" or as the value 0x672.

Error Code 1651

System error code 1651 means "Windows Installer does not permit updating of managed advertised products. At least one feature of the product must be installed before applying the update." This error code may also display as "ERROR_PATCH_MANAGED_ADVERTISED_PRODUCT" or as the value 0x673.

Error Code 1652

System error code 1652 means "The Windows Installer service is not accessible in Safe Mode. Please try again when your computer is not in Safe Mode or you can use System Restore to return your machine to a previous good state." This error code may also display as "ERROR_INSTALL_SERVICE_SAFEBOOT" or as the value 0x674.
