Advrcntr6.dll errors, most often "This program the file advrcntr6.dll, which was not found on this system", are caused when, for whatever reason, the advrcntr6 DLL file is deleted or moved from its proper location.

The might go "missing" because it was accidentally deleted from its folder, because an antivirus or security program mistakenly removed it thinking it was a security threat, or due to an issue when you last upgraded or reinstalled Nero.

Errors related to this file apply to nearly any version of Nero installed on any of Microsoft's operating systems that Nero is compatible with, like Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, etc.

Advrcntr6.dll errors may show up in different ways depending on how it was generated. Here are a few that people see, the first being the most common:

  • This program requires the file advrcntr6.dll, which was not found on this system.
  • ADVRCNTR6.DLL MISSING
  • File advrcntr6.dll not found

Most advrcntr6.dll "not found" errors are due to issues with the Nero CD and DVD burning software program. The advrcntr6 DLL file must exist in the correct folder for Nero to burn CDs or DVDs. The error might be seen during installation or when launching the Nero program.

These errors may also appear on computers without Nero installed if the computer is infected with certain kinds of viruses or other malware.

How to Fix Advrcntr6.dll Errors

Follow these steps in order to fix advrcntr6.dll errors:

Do not, under any circumstances, download advrcntr6.dll from any "DLL download site." There are several reasons why downloading DLLs like that is never a good idea. If you have already, remove it immediately and continue with the following steps for a safer way to restore the file.

  1. Restart your computer. The advrcntr6.dll error might be a fluke, and since restarting fixes many common computer problems, it could clear this one up completely.

  2. If you see the error during the installation of Nero, temporarily disable your antivirus software and try again. Sometimes, security software will interfere with an installation and prevent it from loading certain files, including this one.

    If you follow through with this step, be sure to re-enable the security software after Nero installs normally.

  3. Get the serial number of your particular Nero installation. The easiest way to find it is to locate the confirmation email from your purchase.

  4. Uninstall Nero from your computer. Nero recommends using their own program, called Nero FirstAidKit.

    You can also remove it manually through the Start menu—using Uninstall Nero in the Nero program group (if available). But try Nero's program first.

  5. Restart your computer.

  6. Reinstall Nero from your original installation disc or downloaded file. This step should restore the advrcntr6.dll file.

  7. Install the latest update to your Nero program if there is one available. There may have been certain issues in your original version that caused the advrcntr6.dll error you've been seeing.

  8. Restart your computer again.

  9. Run a virus/malware scan of your entire system if the Nero steps don't resolve your issue. Some advrcntr6 DLL issues are actually related to hostile programs that masquerade as the file.

The advrcntr6.dll file should be located in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib folder. If you find it in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, chances are it is not Nero's legitimate advrcntr6.dll file.
