Yesterday, Microsoft announced that 40 million Windows 8 licenses have been sold in the first month of their new operating system's availability:

As we pass the one month anniversary of the general availability of Windows 8, we are pleased to announce that to-date Microsoft has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses ... Windows 8 is outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades.
So it seems things are moving along nicely for Windows 8. Granted, we don't know if "licenses" means just those sold directly to folks like you and me, or if it also includes volume license agreements. Still, that's a lot of Windows 8!
