Push Button Reset

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Push Button Reset (PBR) is a rumored recovery feature to be included in Windows 8, Microsoft's successor to Windows 7.

Push Button Reset would be an easy way to restore Windows 8 to its factory or originally installed state but, unlike previous Windows recovery or restoration features, would also retain files, personalization settings, and user accounts.

Details about Push Button Reset were revealed in June 2010 after a presentation from Microsoft to some of its partners was leaked. You can read more about how Push Button Reset was described by Microsoft by looking at the slides from this presentation available from Microsoft Kitchen here.
