Definition: PCI Express (PCIe) is a standard type of connection for internal devices, primarily video cards. Generally, it refers to the actual expansion slot on the motherboard that accepts PCIe expansion cards and to the types of expansion cards themselves.

Note: PCI Express is considered the standard video card interface. As a PC video interface, PCI Express has replaced AGP, which replaced PCI, which replaced ISA.

Thunderbolt is a potential replacement for PCI Express.
