Boot Sector

By , About.com Guide

Definition: A boot sector is a sector of a hard disk drive or other storage device that contains the necessary computer code to start the boot process.

There are two kinds of boot sectors - volume boot records and master boot records.

Examples:
"I once had a nasty virus that infected the boot sector of my hard drive, making it unable to boot into Windows!"
