You're probably looking to recover deleted files from your hard drive because you deleted a file you shouldn't have. Don't worry, at one time or another we've all needed to recover deleted files from our computers.
Lucky for all of us there are some established ways to recover deleted files that are usually very effective, so don't lose hope yet!
Even though I list two ways to recover deleted files, it's more of a troubleshooting process than a choice.
The Recycle Bin should be the first place you look to recover deleted files. A file recovery program should be used to recover deleted files only if the files have been emptied from the Recycle Bin.
Here's the method you should use to recover deleted files:
- Recover Deleted Files From the Recycle Bin. If you haven't yet emptied the Recycle Bin, your deleted files will still be located here. You can recover deleted files from the Recycle Bin by simply restoring the files to their original locations
- Recover Deleted Files with a Free File Recovery Program. If the files you're looking for have already been emptied from the Recycle Bin, you can attempt to recover them using a file recovery program.
Important: You won't always be able to recover deleted files after they've left the Recycle Bin but a free file recovery program is your best bet at this point. You can improve the ability of a file recovery program to recover deleted files by installing and running the program as soon as possible after deleting a file.
