Version 9.4.0.1017 of Intel's Chipset Device Software is now available. This update corrects branding for several devices.
Intel's INF updates are not drivers in the most technical sense, but are instead updates to important files that tell Windows how to use Intel integrated hardware. However, I usually still refer to them as drivers.
Note: If you're not experiencing any issues with your hardware then this update probably isn't necessary, though I've rarely seen Intel chipset driver updates cause any problems.

This updated Intel chipset driver (linked above) works for both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP, and only with the following Intel chipsets:

- Intel 6 Series Express Chipsets
- Intel 7 Series Express Chipset

Important: If your Intel chipset isn't listed above, or you're not sure what motherboard you have (or if it's even an Intel motherboard or one with an Intel chipset), you can always perform any Intel related updates using their automatic Intel Driver Update Utility.

I’ve read every Intel INF since the 440BX Chipset. – No INF’s are themselves not *the* drivers. They are instructions to the Windows Installer program which tell it how (and which files for the present OS) to install the driver which is included in the update package. (Generally by way of being compressed in a cab file.) – - Intel RARELY (almost NEVER) updates anything at all in these so called updates. [In the last ~10 years of so they've only actually changed like 5 files between release versions. The rest are copied into the new package version verbatim.] They do add the INF’s and other files for -new- chips that came out but those that were already released are rarely changed. [Meaning the files for 'Series 3' chipsets are exactly the same files (bit by bit) in every release since Series 3 was the latest-greatest Chipset.] – - So, with very rare exception, if you already have the Intel Chipset drivers installed then running a newer installer package is only reinstalling the same old drivers you already have. .
@PCBONEZ: Not untrue. The reason I keep readers up to date on this is so there’s at least some information out there for folks post-Windows-install.
this update is for intel made motherboards only. not updating anything under windows 8 64bit

I’d be really interested to know what exactly changed since the last update -I’m hoping it fixes my BSODs which happen when fast-startup is enabled on Windows 8. (I’m using an Z77 + Intel 520 series SSD)

Chipset.inf should only be run once. If you blow away your OS or have a yellow bang in device manager, you can re-run the inf or a newer version, but for most cases it is run after the OS is installed to ID the devices in your system and to get the correct drivers loaded. So install it once and relax, you are good to go, it is not a driver that needs to be updated.

Hi..I installed this driver version but now my Intel RST service is not running. I tryed to turn it on but not help. I tryed to remove the RST program but there is an error in the end of the uninstalation so i cant uninstall. If i try to install again i get same error. I am running win8 64 with a I7 processor. What am i doing wrong.

thats it,, i only use ahci i am not on raid bur i am really confused. cant uninstall and cant install service always off
@Finn: The line “2013:05:17 13:24:21:759: Not a first install, skipping HW check” tells me that this isn’t a clean driver install, and also that there’s no hardware check occurring which would be nice because that’s one possible issue. Uninstall the driver, restart, and then run it again. No need to post the entire log again – just recheck it and see if the HW check passes that time and then let me know.

after restart the program was still there. I then uninstalled the friver in device manager and restartet. The service was still not running. I looked in services to see if i could delete ir#t but the service was not there..
After i try to install again but gave me same log as the line you mention.
@Finn: Sorry about the late reply. You should next try to uninstall these from Safe Mode. That often works better.
i tryed safe mode but the uninstall program wont finish. Its a tricky litle program haha.
