A show of hands please:
Any Windows users still using an operating system older than Windows XP?
If so, why? Do you prefer the older OS? Does it still serve your needs? Are you forced to due to a vital program that you use? Let me know in the comments.

I still use Windows 2000. I’ve just never seen a reason to upgrade. I just use the internet and a few card making programs and everything works perfectly. I figure I’ll get up to speed on Windows 7 when I have to after this machine dies on me!
I am still using Win 2000 because I have two daughters in college who have the latest laptops. Hence, I have no money to upgrade my own. I even install and repair DSL for the phone company during the day. Would LOVE to upgrade. Want to help support my cause? Send money!!
I am using windows7
W2000 pro and am ready for the laptop it is running on to die. What a workhorse this system has been and continues to be. I will be forced to upgrade simply due to hardware failure.
I Too am running Win2000 as I see no reason to upgrade as I only surf and have webmail. All my Firewall/Anti-virus/Spyware/software etc still supports it.System is old- p2,600mhz,250mg,9Gig hard drive.
@RickyPics: I always loved Windows 2000… it worked very well for me.
I am upgrade to xp to windows-7 all my application is working fine .

It could be that I am a computer illiterate. I upgraded from 2000 to XP off of my grandsons upgrade disk that still had one user left on it. All seems to be running fine. I have a second drive (D) that still has stuff left over from W95, 98, and 2000 stored on it. If someone would definitively tell me I can get rid of all that stuff it will be gone in a flash since I need the space for other storage. My old C drive is down to less than 1 Gig and I could move some seldom used stuff over to the D.
Any help is appreciated.
Used Windows ME until very recently on a HP Pavilion desktop purchased in 1999 at Wal-Mart. Would still be using it if my Linux partitioning hadn’t gone awry and caused my primary partition to be hosed (I now run Linux in a virtual machine). I thought, “As long as I am starting from scratch, I might as well load XP on this machine.” I primarily used this machine for networking printers (shared them over the network from this machine) and basic browsing. Didn’t really have that much trouble with it until I started messing with the partitions. I still network one older printer with this machine simply because my newer machines don’t have parallel ports any longer. I currently run machines with Kubuntu, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (x3), Mac OS (Snow Leopard on a Macbook Pro) and if I really have to, I can get on the internet with a Thinkpad circa 1995 with Windows 95 on it and even though it has only 24 MG Ram and limited to 640 x 480 resolution with a pentium 90, it still works (very slowly).
I use Windows XP at home and Windows 2000 Professional at work. I work for the State of Maryland. Half the PCs at work are running XP, the other half are running Windows 2000 Professional. The extended support for Windows 2000 Professional ends July 13, 2010. It will be interesting to see if I am still running Windows 2000 after that date. I will bet you dollars to donuts that I will be as long as the PC still functions.
anyone who uses anything besides XP is an idiot. M E or Vista? Double idiot!
I have one computer still running Windows 2000. It runs everything I need on that computer without any problems. Why should I pay to upgrade it? What advantage would there be? None!
Buffet, in my opinion, you are the idiot.
I need DOS as well as XP to program communications devices, microwave equipment, etc. I prefer DOS to all of the Windows OS’s, it is much faster. I also have many valuable programs that won’t work on Windows(thanks Microsoft).
I still use W2K along with XPpro and Ubuntu. W2K is my favorite and I upgraded to Vista once then removed it because of instability. You might say I use W2K because I like it, and I have a number of programs that won’t run on others. When my W2K machine goes, if I can’t load W2K on the new one I will probably go to Ubuntu on it. If W7 proves itself, I might consider it, but I will wait for the proof, which will probably be about the time they quit supporting it.
I use 98 ME 2000pro besides xp as a SR limitd income You use what You can get for cheap or free all work
I have a P2 machine which doesn’t go on the Internet, running Win 98SE. All my Financial and other info which I wouldn’t want hacked are on that machine. It has a 300 meg processor with 384 mb RAM, and an 8GB Hard Drive. It is unbelievably fast, since I don’t have any antivirus or firewall software to weigh it down.
I also have a Win 2000 Machine which I use as a backup for my XP Computer. Win 2000 is one of Microsoft’s best OS, IMO
If nothing else using a legacy OS on the net is risky. Legacy OS’ receive little, if any support and unpatched errors and flaws in the OS can lead to data security problems and issues with viruses etc. Not on the internet? then it could be ideal.
I know someone who prides themselves on a full legacy PC running multiboot windows 3.1 and DOS all the way through to XP. Their PC sports a 3 1/4 inch floppy drive and even a 5 1/2 inch floppy drive, a real blast from the past.
If it works and you’re not on the net there’s no need to worry about learning to use the newest Windows UI and Windows 2000 is as good as any.
I have two computers one running 2000 Pro the other XP Pro. The only reason the second machine runs XP is that Movie editing progs will not run in 2000.
1st Reason for preferring simple clean fast stable 2000 machine has been running over 3 yrs without a reinstall while XP needs a reinstall about once a year.
2nd Reason I have a very good tape backup Onstream light years ahead of all the others but it will not run on XP .
Tried HP DAT tape with every tape prog available and it is utter rubbish with poor compression.
Normal upgrade policy never change until SP1 or preferably SP2 unless you wish to be the guinea pig.
