It's not uncommon to hear from my readers and clients that they're afraid to update drivers for their hardware.
"What if it stops working completely? I'd rather live with this little problem forever."
Driver updates are nothing to be scared of - anyone can do it and there's actually very little risk thanks to a really handy feature called Driver Roll Back.
Driver Roll Back, available in Device Manger in Windows 7, Vista, and XP, allows you to "roll back" a driver to the one previously installed. If a driver update causes some kind of problem, you're just a button click away from restoring the old one.
In a serious bind where you can't even get back into Windows, know that you can also run Driver Roll Back from Safe Mode. In the worst case scenario, you can always do a System Restore.
Point being - don't be so afraid! Drivers don't usually bite but when they do, it's easy to get back to where you started.
