Software Based Motherboard/CPU Tests

By February 20, 2009

Follow me on:

I received an email from a reader yesterday wondering if I knew of any free motherboard or CPU testing programs.

Offhand - no, I don't. Typically, when a motherboard or CPU fails, your computer won't even start. There's little opportunity there for a software testing tool. However, there are cases where you might want to just make sure those two devices are working as they should and not the cause of a small problem.

What about you? Do you know of any free software programs designed to test a motherboard or CPU? I'd love to get some recommendations.

Hi, if you can actually get a post screen, the I suggest try Hirens BootCD. It has a heap of memory, hdd and other types of testing programs on it, as well as formatting and partitioning tools. Hope this is of help. Thanks.
