Computer Recyling

Wednesday October 8, 2008
Have you ever recycled a computer? I recently recycled a complete PC and several other components through Office Depot's program. I'll be reviewing the program soon.

Anyone else have any experiences recycling electronic devices? Several programs exist - some through local governments and some through major computer manufacturers or electronics retailers.

I have used automatic updates on 4 XP Home machines for years, including the the downloading and updating to Service Pack 3… and have never had a problem.
The machines are Abit AW8 and IP35’s with Pentium 4’s or Core2 Duos and 2 G of memory with heavy duty video boards used to drive the attached displays only.
I also have a medium sized eMachines I got to try out Vista and I converted it to XP SP3 with the automatic updates… again with no problems.

I bought a new computer with Windows Vista. I had always let Microsoft automatically update my computers with no problem. So with this new computer, I let it do the same, until one day after the update, my computer would not work. It has also cleared system restore and I had no restore points. I deleted the updates and it works fine. Needless to say, I do them manually now.

I seem to have the same problem as you Thrasher. The auto updates never caused a problem before, but now every time I have an update my computer does all sorts of weird things until I uninstall it. It is good(I think) to know I am not the only one. I think I am going to do them manually from now on, I just thought automatic was the way to go.
