Do You Use a Registry Cleaner?

Monday September 29, 2008
Have you ever used a registry cleaner program before? If so, do you use it regularly? What did you think about it? Does it improve your computer's performance or correct problems? What program do you use?

Registry cleaners scan your Windows Registry for errors, duplicate information, viruses, and other entries that the cleaner program identifies as dangerous or unnecessary.

Some people swear by these programs and run them regularly. Others point out how often registry cleaners cause registry damage and how little they improve performance even when they do work properly.

Please share your experiences with registry cleaners - good and bad - in the comments.

Everyday.

I use Advanced Registry Fix, which does a fine job of things. (It looks cool too…) It will defrag and compress the registry without having to reboot. I also use Revo Uninstaller, which does a much better job of removing registry entries than the actual program deinstallers usually do.

Using these two programs, my registry is in good shape. And the easier files are to read, the faster the drive works. Which is also why I use JKDefrag for the entire 1.4T drive system I run..

My computer moved like a slug on a cold day! So I bought RegCure. It is scheduled to clean my registry every night the computer is running. It also has a utility that makes it very easy to regulate my “start up” programs.
Then I bought UniBlue which is also a registry cleaner. But it’s added features were defragging the registry and optimizing the registry.

I use Ccleaner once a week, it does the job well and is free. I wouldn’t pay for a cleaner.I always back up first in case anything goes wrong but it hasn’t ever. I used to use Registry Mechanic but I noticed it ‘found’ more problems than I believed were real, probably to get me to buy it.

Registry cleanup programs are a must. Trial versions of software, and free online games will leave behind reg keys that will slow your system down. And not just frivolous stuff either, any uninstall will leave behind folders and files that are just taking up space, and may try to re-install if associated with a RegKey! Revo Uninstaller is very effective. CCleaner daily! It cleans up the internet cache, another culprit that drags your system. Wise Registry Cleaner and Eusing Free are both good, and FREE!

I’ve been using Wise Registry Cleaner and Regseeker, both free, and use them at least twice a week. Nice improvement on the overall performance of my computer which has an older Pentium III processor so i really need all the help i can get. Defrag is also a must.

Once a month I use Acronis 11 Backup before I do anything and mark the backup as ‘before’
Then I use CCleaner, EasyCleaner, Glary Utilities Registry Cleaner, JV16 Power Tools Registry Cleaner, and then do an AusLogics defrag.
Finally I use Acronis 11 Backup to get an ‘after’ picture.
I have been doing these procedures for years and have never had a problem, never had to do a restore.
My current machine is an ABIT IP35 Pro with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 2G of Crucial PC2 8500 and for video, Saphire ATI Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB. The OS is Windows/XP.
For virus/malware I use A-squared and Avira.
When downloading I use the Acronis 11 Backup virtual machine (Try and Decide)

I have been using RegCure for about 2 years, and as far as I can tell, it performs as advertised. It should not be over-used though. I use Diskeeper as defragmenter, and it speeds up my computer very noticeably. It should be used whenever there have been application downloads and other najor file-changing operations; you’d be surprised how this messes up a system quickly.

I use Reg vac to clean out the registry every month on 50 computers. Works great and keeps my machines running in top shape.

I use Uniblue Registry Booster and PC Tools Registry Mechanic. They both work good, and what one doesn’t find, the other will. Incidentally, I also find PC Tools Spyware Doctor to be useful.

There are 100 ++ title of registry cleaners can be found on the internet. Most of the time the freeware are better than the paid version. Great Post. Thank you
