How to Access Your PC's BIOS

Monday September 22, 2008
Accessing your BIOS isn't something you'll need to do on a regular basis but knowing how to is important because you'll likely need in there for something someday.

In BIOS, you can turn on and off almost all of the hardware built in to your computer's motherboard. You can also make changes to how that hardware is used by your computer - meaning Windows or whatever operating system you might using.

Follow these easy steps to access your PC's BIOS. If you still can't get in, leave a comment here or head over to the PC Support forum and ask for some help.

How do you access the BIOS on a Chassis Plan PC?

Kevin, do you have any idea what motherboard is used in the Chassis Plan computer you have?

Those are industrial PCs so the BIOS access information might be hard to come by.

When my computer is booted up, it shows a blinking underscore for about 15 seconds, then goes straight to the windows xp loading bar. Is there a way to access BIOS from the computer? =/

Aaron, Yes, you should be able to access BIOS. Have you tried all the regular key combos like F1, Del, F10, etc.? Regardless, you might be able to hit ESC or TAB during the blinking cursor to display the POST messages. Try that… if it works, you should see lots of info on the screen, including the key needed to enter BIOS.
