What's Your Favorite Backup Program?

Monday September 8, 2008
Let's talk about backup programs - do you have a favorite one? Do you use Microsoft's built-in backup software or do you use another program like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image? (Do you even backup up at all?)

We'll leave the online backup services for another day - I'm looking for comments on the traditional Windows software you use to backup to CD/DVD, backup tape, or local network share.

You can see some of my thoughts in my Top 4 Backup Software Programs list.

Ghost is good. I use that for a long time but it only did not work one time. Good program.

Acronis True Image is the one I would recommend. Never a problem after using for 4+ years. I prefer a disk image backup that I can boot from and Acronis allows that as well as individual file restoral.

I like Acronis as well. I’ve never had a problem with it either. Very good program.

Cobian’s the best – it’s freeware & works better than anything else we’ve ever tried, including Microsoft (whose scheduled back-up service just does not work). Unlike Microsoft,Cobian has never let us down.

I’ll take a look at Cobian – thanks Steph!

I have been using XXClone. It will back up your entire hard drive (including OS) and it’s free.

Hi,

I use Acronis True Image for that purposes, but have started using another program for backups in between: Memeo Autobackup. It’s not free, but I like the way it automatically does incremental backups just as soon as files are changed or created. Seems to work very well.
